Department Announcements Millard Band AnnouncementsThe Millard South Bands will host a concert that will include the 8th grade bands from Millard Central and Andersen Middle Schools on January 26. There will also be a fundraiser dinner featuring the “Waffle Man” from 4:30-6:45 p.m. in the cafeteria. It’s ALL YOU CAN EAT for $6 Ages 12-adult, $4 Ages 5-11, Age 4 and under FREE. If you know of an 8th grader at another school who may be attending Millard South in the fall of 2012 please let us know so they can also participate in this concert.
The first day of school is August 15, 2012. The Millard South Band Camp will start on July 26 & 27 for students new to the band. Band Camp will run July 30 – August 3, 2012 for all members. We will have summer sectionals once a week on Mondays for the band beginning June 4. We will also hope and encourage all band students attend the DCI show on July 9.
The Millard South Music Boosters plan to host the 4th Annual Drums Across Nebraska on Monday, July 9, 2012. This year’s show will feature these corps; Blue Devils from Concord, CA; Blue Knights from Denver, CO; Phantom Regiment from Rockford, IL, Santa Clara Vanguard from Santa Clara, CA, Boston Crusaders, Boston, MA, The Academy, Tempe, AZ, Cascades, Seattle, WA and Forte, Grand Prairie, TX. Read more at DCI.org. We will need everyone’s help in promoting this show and working to ensure that it is a success. Please put us in contact with corporate sponsors that may want to play a role in this show. This is the only DCI show in Nebraska and it is quite an opportunity for our students to be able to see close up how these groups rehearse and perform at such a high level. The only middle school band to perform, Andersen received outstanding reviews from the college band directors and military band directors. Shouts of Bravo and a standing ovation greeted the band at the end of the performance. Students were excited and parents were overwhelmed at the level of performance by middle school students. From one judge: Were this not designated on your sheet as a middle school band I would have assumed that this was a well-trained high school unit. Bravo!!
Select Band gets Superior Plus at LaVista South Band Festival!!Friday, April 1st the Andersen Select Band received all superior ratings from the judges at the LaVista South Band Festival. The band performed Awakening Hills by Richard Saucedo and Alamo March by Karl King. Comments ranged from "fabulous band" to "Tuba Monsters." Many thanks to the parents who chaperoned and attended the band's performance at LaVista HS. Now it's on to the University of Nebraska at Omaha for the NSBA Concert Band Festival on April 9th!!
Select Band Gets Straight Superiors at Platteview Band Contest!The Andersen Select Band received straight superior + from all judges at the Platteview Band Contest on Friday, March 25th. All of the judges gave the band their highest scores and outstanding comments. Andersen was the only band to perform high school compositions and successfully earn the 1+ rating.
